I was about to write a comment at saudijeans.org but then I decided to write my own post about this… and here it goes.

I read too much into things sometimes, and love a conspiracy theory or two… but my take on things is a little different, I chalk it up to a right hemisphere dominant brain… I’m a lefty… and most lefties are eccentric anyway… I know I am, I’ve been told so many times. Anyhow… back to the subject at hand.

When the grand puba Grand Mufti comes out to say something like “ They want her to go unveiled, moving about and traveling on her own, getting involved in relationships with whoever she wants, and calling whoever she wants to start up friendships with whoever she wants,” You know something stirred shit up. We blog because something caused us to write or sparked that part of us that tells us to write… they do the same thing, on a whole different level, but not with just some words in cyberspace.

This is a litmus test, to test the waters if you will, in response to things such as www.n7nudrive.com and other movements and “studies”, but the site has all the info needed to see how this movement is gaining momentum, and see how, this ultra conservative society accepts or rejects something new and to what degree.

They did this with things such as women checking into hotels unaccompanied by males. My father in-law told me that they initially objected to women’s education because if women knew how to read and write then they would be able to write and receive love letters… and now its the phones and mobiles… oh and emails, chat rooms, and god forbid… they have blogs written by women now.

They are also doing this for the introduction of movie theaters. First, it is Egyptian plays for kids every year in Jeddah during the summer festivals, then a small movie theater for kids at one of the malls in Jeddah, which was shut down after only a few shows… not like it was an actual movie theater (cinema) but a small room with a projector, and let us not forget the problems that face some actors from Egypt during those plays.

Now I do not know how they measure these things, just like I do not know how they measure TV show ratings, but its not like they need to look more than post and comments on blogs, forums, and maybe YouTube to get an idea.

Of course I could be wrong, sometimes I am… but I would like to bet on me myself and I being right this time.
