I am a supporter of innovators and a lover of new technology, but I hope this product fails.

I enjoy a little shesha once a year, but this is too much, people in my world smoke in non smoking sections and around little kids and pregnant women, and every time I go to a market I leave with red itchy eyes due to all the second hand smoke.

A little story to share, in Jeddah airport, where no smoking signs are so big you would think it was an add for a movie, waiting for my bags, people start to smoke. One of my country men lights up with an Anglo-Saxon, and of course because he wants to show how advanced we are he asks one of the porters about the nearest ashtray… of course there are no ashtrays you $#@!head, there is “no smoking” here… but they go on, unbothered, smoking under the big no smoking sign… it’s a free country after all.

Seriously, I cannot imagine people carrying this around their waist while wearing a thobe, this is even worse then the Jurak flavoured cigarette that came out about 15-20 years ago. But then again I think a gun holster on a thobe looks ridicules… but that’s just me… what do I know… maybe this might catch on in other Arab countries or in the west… who knows.

  1. Oh come on Qusay! I sort of like it the idea….but the guy in the photo looks Asian. Is this a Chinese invention? Probably so……..

    • Rasheed, it is a Chinese or a Japanese invention, just like the instant coal that is used with most sheshas.

Saudiaspire, a friend sent it to me, but it’s all over the net.

  2. lool Where in God’s name did you find this Qusay?!?
I wouldn’t know what to say or what to make of this product!
I share your hope that it fails miserably though :)

  3. May it die an agonizing slow isolated death, like the cancer deaths it causes! Otherwise your post, and the product itself are hilarious!
Is jurak a fruit flavour? Fruit flavourings have been used to hook children and teens on cigarettes, and are now being banned.

  4. The incident of people smoking happened in front of me in the old Dhahran airport. I get off the plane this British guy in front of me in the line to immigration desk starts smoking. There is a big no smoking sign in the front. I let it go sympathising with him. He then lights up another one. Now for me that was a step too far. As the first one was bothered me as well. So I point to the sign and tell him that he should refrain. He then points out an airport official who is smoking near the sign. I then call over another airport official and start speaking in arabic to complain against him. Once the guy hears me speaking arabic he quickly stubs out his cigarette.

The moral of the story. If you see someone doing that talk to a cop.
